Hi,
I am working on a project in which I am doing the business requirements documentation. While working on the documents, we had a conflicting situation in which one Team expects the Error & alert messages that a user receives to be in the business requirements section; where as the other team expects all those errors and alerts to be consolidated and kept in an appendix. Where do you think is the right place or addressing these requirements? In the detailed requirements section where the detailed requirements are documented or at the end of the document in the Appendix?

Thank you for your time,

Hello,

I have a project where the client does not want to do full-blown requirements for budget reasons. After this document, we'll go straight to defining the High-Level Technical Design, then Detailed Technical Design and Implementation Plan. I understand not having detailed requirements is not ideal and have raised this as a risk for the project.

My questions are:

1. What type of documentation would you expect to utilize for documenting Functional Needs Assessment? Is a "Vision" type document sufficient?

2. What type of information would you want included in this document?

I have a clear idea of what I want to do, but I want to get further ideas from collaboration with other BA's in the world.

12 volunteers required for this years BA World conference in Perth...

BusinessAnalystWorld Perth is seeking 12 volunteers to help us with the event. We like to work directly with the local IIBA and PMI associations to recruit and secure these volunteers.

IMPORTANT: volunteers must be very comfortable and confident speaking in public

DETAILS:Requires availability the evening of Wednesday the 13th of June, as well as to volunteer one day during the event (14 / 15 June) from 7:30am-5:00pm.
This years event takes place at the Parmelia Hilton.

IN RETURN:Volunteers receive a FREE Symposium Conference pass (14 / 15 June). Volunteers serve as room monitor for one of those days (they may participate in the track sessions) and attend the other day of the Symposium for free. You are also free to attend the keynotes and any networking activities. All meals (breakfast and lunch) coffee and snacks are provided.

YOUR ROLE: Two people will be assigned one track session room where you are being asked to introduce the speaker and act as a room monitor. Towards the conclusion of the presentation you are to give that speaker a 5 minute warning, a 3 min. warning and a 1 min. warning – we will provide cards for you to hold up alerting the speaker to their time remaining. After that, if the speaker does not finish, you need to walk up to the front of the room, thank the speaker, and announce to the audience that this session is over.
Yes, you have to give em the ‘hook’! (By the way, the speakers know all about this – they have been told about the timing warned about the ‘hook’ so do not feel sheepish)
After the session you will thank the speaker and present them with a small gift.
We provide you with the scripted introductions and the time cards.

Preference is given to those not currently working, or in a position where funding to attend the conference is not available.
Interested participants, please contact: aruddell@divcomevents.com

Once again, thank you. If you have any questions, or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Let's say you were selling an application that runs on self-service kiosks... You spend months and months documenting the specific requirements (i.e. functional requirements, assumptions, constraints, screens, screen behaviour etc..) and of course each requirement has a unique identifier.. for example Functional requiremetn - FR-001, Assumption - AS-001 etc.. .

Now you have to do the same for a similiar application that will be running in a web environment... The first thing you realize is alot of the requirements/assumptions/constraints etc.. apply equally to both applications.. I am debating whether to reuse them and keep all the unique identifiers or whether or not i redefine them with unique id's applicable to the channel (i.e. FR-Web-001, FR-Kiosk-001 etc..). I am thinking that it's probably best to reuse them across channels rather than duplicate them... however i do not see how this can be properly done without some sort of traceability matrix.. as follows:

Requirement ID          Channel
FR-001                     Web
Kiosk
========================
FR-002                     Web
========================
FR-003                      Kiosk
========================
AS-001                      Web
Kiosk
========================

The concern is having the time to maintain a traceability matrix without an automated tool...which we do not have.. If we could maintain such a traceability table i think it really empowers b/a's to think holistically when it comes to requirements across product channels.. Also, for change managemet/scope mgmt etc..

any thoughts/feedback are appreciated

Would like to review the last event to ensure that we are better set up for the future events. What went well, what did not go so well, how could we improve.

Agile extension to the BABOK

What went well
- Agile topic generates a lot of interest
- Brad's presentation was very focussed on the topic.

What didn not go so well
- The IIBA did not get enough prominance
- The content was not on topic for 2 out of the 3 presenters

How could we improve
- We need to work with the speakers to ensure that the content covers the topic.
- We need to set the guidelines up beforehand if we are to co-host an event with another group.

Hi folks,
I am a new member of IIBA. I have worked as a hybrid PM and BA for many years, TPM as my last employer called it. I recently decided to focus purely on the solution side and took a job as a pure IT BA.

The company I joined is in a fast growth stage and does not have much in the way of processes or documentation. So I immediately set out to start building these. Recently I received an email of a data integration requirment for an existing system I have not seen and do not have referential documentation.

So I took a stab at my response based on the email and the limited information but sent it to my boss to see if I was understanding the system and issue. It was basically a data integration that would transform values in a non-standard manner for the system.

He expressed concern with my response from the standpoint of my field competewnce but I was a bit confused as to how I could accurately respond to a question on a system I literally know nothing about (hence why I sent it to him). I was actually not far off with my response.

My question is, am I off base in my concerns? Should there be an expectation that an IT BA have some knowledge of or documentation for a system to accurately analyze and respond? I fully expected such challenges and that is why I took the position. But I am not sure the expectations realistically match anyone's capabilities.

I have done this quite successfully for years, but now I find that I am questioning myself.

I just wanted a sanity check before I challenge him on this issue.
Thoughts?
Thanks
